CYCLE 1

Taegeuk IL Jang – Yellow Belt

Yellow Belt Poomsae – Yellow Team Cycle 1. Meaning: Il Jang (pronounced Ill Jong) is represented by the symbol “Keon” which means the heaven and yang. Keon symbolizes the beginning of creation of all things in the universe. It symbolic that this would be the symbol used to represent the first Taeguek poomsae which is the beginning of your knowledge in Taekwondo. This poomsae has 18 movements.

 

Taegeuk Sam Jang – Green Belt

Green Belt Poomsae – Green Team Cycle 1. Meaning: Sam Jang (pronounced Sahm Jahng) is represented by the symbol Ri. This sign represents fire “hot and bright”. Ri is to encourage the trainees to harbor a sense of justice and fervor for training. This poomsae has 20 movements.

 

Taegeuk O Jang – Blue Belt 

Blue Belt Poomsae -Blue Team Cycle 1. Meaning: Oh Jang (pronounced Oh Jahng) is represented by the Seon sign. This sign represents wind. As wind can grow from a gentle breeze to a hurricane, so does the martial arts student. The true martial arts student learns to harness this paradoxical strength. This poomsae has 20 movements.

 

Taegeuk Chil Jang – Red Belt

Red Belt Poomsae – Red Team Cycle 1. Meaning: Chil Jang (pronounce Chill Jahng) is represented by the symbol Kan. This symbol represents a mountain. This symbol means ponderousness and firmness. This poomsae has 25 movements.

Taegeuk Yi Jang – Yellow/Green Belt

Yellow/Green Belt Poomsae – Yellow Team Cycle 2. Meaning: Yi Jang (pronounced Ee Jahnng) is represented by the symbol Yae. This symbol signifies internal strength and outer softness (iron fist in a velvet glove). This poomsae has 18 movements.
